Ornament of the World, by Maria Rosa Menocal (2002)

We had a great first reading group meeting! Thanks to all our participants. Over the next few days I'll work on a summary of our discussion in case you missed today's session. In our next session on September 17, we'll read chapters 9-21 and focus on Marcela's defense of her character in chapter 14.

One of our participants raised a very helpful resource about chapter 9. María Rosa Menocal's 2002 Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews, and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain contains a chapter about Don Quixote (and in particular, on chapter 9). 

The Hood College Library copy of this book is checked out, but Hood faculty, students, and staff can request a copy of the book through our library consortium. The Frederick County Public Library system has quite a few copies--though most are checked out. While you have the book on hold, you can read an excerpt online from the book through the Hachette Book Group website. 

NOTE: I corrected the publication date for this book on September 20. Originally I had 2003, which seems to be the paperback publication date.
